Online Gambling in Ontario
Ontario was the first province to open its online casino market to private companies. Since April 4, 2022, operators registered with the AGCO and contracted by iGaming Ontario can legally offer casino games and sports betting to players aged 19+, alongside OLG’s own site.

How Ontario’s Market Works
- AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) registers and regulates operators under the Gaming Control Act, 1992 and its Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming.
- iGaming Ontario (iGO) conducts and manages the market and signs operating agreements with each company. It became an independent Crown agency on May 12, 2025.
- OLG keeps running its own online casino and lottery on OLG.ca, and the PROLINE+ sportsbook.
In 2024 the Ontario Superior Court rejected a challenge by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, ruling that because iGO conducts and manages the market, the model complies with the Criminal Code. By mid-2026 the market had dozens of operators and more than 80 sites.
How to Check If a Site Is Legal in Ontario
- Look for the site on iGaming Ontario’s list of regulated operators.
- Look for the iGaming Ontario logo on the site — and make sure you are on the Ontario version (usually an “.on” or Ontario-specific domain).
- Regulated sites must verify your age and location and offer limits and self-exclusion.
Sites that aren’t registered have no Ontario licence, and the AGCO cannot help with complaints about them.
Sports Betting in Ontario
You can bet online with private sportsbooks registered in Ontario or with OLG’s PROLINE+ (19+). In stores, OLG sells PROLINE (18+). See PROLINE and PROLINE+ explained.
What’s New
- BetGuard — a centralised self-exclusion tool covering all regulated Ontario sites, launched in 2026.
- Shared poker and fantasy-sports pools — the Ontario Court of Appeal allowed Ontario players to share pools with international players in 2025; other provinces’ lottery corporations appealed, and the Supreme Court heard the case on October 7, 2026. A decision is pending.
