Is Online Gambling Legal in Nova Scotia?
Yes, through Atlantic Lottery (ALC), the Crown corporation owned jointly by Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador. It operates in Nova Scotia for the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation. The province approved online casino games in 2021, and ALC launched them on July 21, 2022 with about 150 games, two years after New Brunswick. Other sites have no Nova Scotia licence; players aren’t prosecuted for using them, but they have no provincial protection.
How Big Is the Offshore Market?
Atlantic Lottery’s 2025–26 annual report estimates that about C$250 million a year leaves Atlantic Canada through unlicensed operators, and that ALC holds only about 35% of the online market. In October 2026 the Canadian Online Gaming Alliance registered lobbyists in Nova Scotia to argue for an Ontario-style licensing model. The government has not announced anything.
